a country club classic with comfortable vibes.

The affluent Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, USA is the perfect backdrop for
Somerset Club. After all, the restaurant, which made its debut in September in the Viceroy
Hotel, derives its design inspiration from the swankiest of sources: the midcentury American
country club. "The best part about the clubs in the 1960s and 1970s is that they were actually
a place to allow folks in the middle class to flourish and step out a bit," says Adam Farmerie,
principal, AvroKO, New York, New York, USA. The idea was an interpretation of Boka
Restaurant Group's original ask, which Farmerie describes as "an American restaurant that had
some grandeur to it but at the same time felt like an everyday experience." In a nod to the Gold
Coast's proximity to the waterfront, AvroKO specifically decided to pay homage to clubs with
marinas and boating enthusiasts. To bring that indoors, Farmerie and his team looked back in
time to find motifs to weave together.
