A FRESH DISPLAY
A £1 million redesign has given the Victoria
& Albert (V&A) Museum shop a modern
upgrade while still keeping it connected to
its past.
Reopened in May 2017, the shop was
designed by London, England-based Friend
and Company. The team took inspiration from the museum's first store, which
opened in 1863. The goal of the new space
was to showcase new crafts and connect
visitors with the museum's collections,
according to Design Week.
For a modern twist, the company relied
on the latest technologies and trends taking
hold in the retail industry. For example, the
shop features the world's first 3D-printed
ceramic tile, which has been used for segments of the floor.
Although Friend and Company increased
the display space in the shop, it looked
for ways to draw shoppers in by offering a
unique experience. For example, there is a
new Jewelry Pavilion and a Pocket Workshop craft demonstration space that focuses
on a different material every quarter.
