Fresh Food GREEN ISSUE THE Annual Meat Conference Rustles up Retailers, Vendors to Denver A perennial highlight of the Annual Meat Conference is the Product Tasting Reception, which featured some 40 exhibitors offering a feast of great tastes while showcasing a slew of new meat and poultry products. Co-sponsored by the American Meat Institute (AMI) and the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), the recent educational event, which attracted roughly 700 members of the retail food and meat industries, focused heavily on meat and poultry marketing developments, merchandising issues and consumer purchasing trends. As one of Certified Angus Beef’s (CAB) top-performing retailers, Giant Eagle’s Ed Steinmetz (second from right) convened during the Product Tasting Reception with key members of Wooster, Ohio-based CAB’s team, including (from left) Mark Polzer, Al Kober and Kyle Miller. Gold’n Plump Poultry’s Mike Helgeson (center) and Chris Druce (right) were “Just Bare-ing” it all with the National Chicken Council’s Bill Roenigk during the tasting event. Keith Welty (far right) and his National Beef colleagues, including (from left) Bob Bean, Scott Murphy, Erick Seigfried and Bill Gandy, discussed the company’s premium, natural Vintage Beef brand with a duo from Unified Grocers: Scott Worrell (third from right) and Steve Edwards (second from right).
