Progressive Grocer - June/July 2009 - (Page 46)
Retailer of the Year Celebrating Kroger PG and leading suppliers celebrated Kroger’s selection of the 2009 Retailer of the Year. I n honor of The Kroger Co.’s selection as Progressive Grocer’s 2008 Retailer of the Year, executives from the industry’s leading trade publication and key event sponsors gathered on April 6 for a celebration at the retailer’s Cincinnati headquarters. After presenting Kroger chairman and CEO David Dillon with a commemorative Retailer of the Year award, Progressive Grocer and fellow event sponsors — Anheuser-Busch, C.H. Robinson, Fujitsu, General Mills, Goya, Hardt Equipment and Hershey Foods — presented Dillon and key members of Kroger’s executive team with a $7,000 check to Feeding America to further support the company’s impactful, admirable hunger relief efforts in the communities where its customers and associates live and work. Capping the event, the celebration switched venues via charter bus for a tour of the impressive 116,000-square-foot Kroger Marketplace in Walton, Ky., roughly 30 minutes south of Cincinnati. The store’s management team and chefs provided event participants with a highly memorable afternoon, which included being treated to a variety of tasty samples from the diverse and appetizing menu at its in-store Bistro kitchen. ■ Special Thanks to our Sponsors The spacious lobby of Kroger’s recently opened Marketplace store in Walton, Ky., provided the perfect backdrop for Progressive Grocer and fellow event sponsors — Anheuser-Busch, C.H. Robinson, Fujitsu, General Mills, Goya, Hardt Equipment and Hershey Foods — to join with members of Kroger’s headquarters and store teams to celebrate at Kroger’s Retailer of the Year event on April 6. 46 • Progressive Grocer • June/July 2009 A H E A D O F W H AT ’ S N E X T www.progressivegrocer.com
