HEATS UP WITH AN IMPRESSIVE FINE-DINING SCENE, NEW VENUES FOR GROUPS, AND A SLEW OF NEW AMENITIES By Andrea Doyle I f you haven’t been to Atlantic City recently, you’re in for a surprise. The hospitality industry in this famed, historic seaside resort spot has been working furiously to make sure the destination is multi-faceted and the hard work is paying off. When planners who have not been to Atlantic City in a while visit, the reaction is, “wow,” explains Gary Musich, vice president of convention sales for the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority (ACCVA). A whopping $6 billion has been spent on updates as well as on creating a more balanced experience for visitors. Recent developments include Atlantic City’s first boutique hotel, The Chelsea; The Water Club at Borgata; the Chairman’s Tower at the Trump Taj Mahal; the Waterfront Tower, a new 964-room tower at Harrah’s, where new restaurants and other non-gaming amenities have also recently debuted; the Courtyard by Marriott; Qua Baths and Spa at Caesars; and upgrades at the Tropicana Casino and Resort. One Atlantic, the first over-water, independent event venue in Atlantic City, opened in January. The venue stands atop the Pier Shops at Caesars and extends 100 yards out over and 80 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. Taking full advantage of its unique location, the concept is elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing panoramic views of the beach, boardwalk, and ocean. The contemporary design features 10,000 sf of integrated event space and a 2,000-sf outdoor terrace. More Than Gaming “We’re not just gaming anymore,” notes Jeffrey Vasser, ACCVA president.
