meet me in LAS VEGAS Whether it’s your first time planning a Las Vegas meeting or your fiftieth, the city makes it easy with an ample inventory that caters to groups of every style, size, and budget. By Irene Korn THIS MIGHT WELL ONE OF THE BEST TIMES IN THE HISTORY OF LAS VEGAS to book a meeting, convention, or incentive there. Hit by the downsizing of meetings and leisure travel from this year’s difficult economy, Las Vegas hotels are offering the kind of value that hasn’t been seen in years. Groups that just two years ago thought they’d been priced out of the city are finding the city is not only an option again but that the hotels welcome their business. “We’ve been booking meetings in Las Vegas since our company started 11 years ago,” says Brandon Koenig, president of Meeting Solutions, based in Wheeling, Illinois, “and we’re finding that groups are absolutely still interested in holding a meeting there.” The difference is that groups that previously weren’t able to meet there are now eyeing the city as a meeting site. From his client base, Koenig cites the seminar business in particular as one industry where he’s seen a large change. “We have some clients who have wanted to do business there for years, but used to have a hard time placing the business in Las Vegas because the room rates were just too high and the meeting space was unaffordable. Now they’re flocking to the city. Attendees come in early and leave late, tacking on their own vacation to their business trip. Las Vegas is an easy destination to get to and the prices to get there are usually very reasonable.” 8 SEPTEMBER 2009 SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS
