2009 Corporate Profile Special Advertising Section House Foods America Corporation COMPANY HISTORY Headquartered in Garden Grove, Calif., House Foods America Corporation (HFAC) is a subsidiary of House Foods Corporation (HFC) in Japan, one of Japan’s oldest and largest food manufacturers. HFAC’s business is composed of three operations: 1) its core and prime operation – manufacturing and distributing Tofu products, 2) importing packaged foods manufactured by HFC, and 3) managing a chain of curry restaurants (Curry House) which now has grown to 11 locations in California. In 1981, a sales office was established in Los Angeles to introduce Japanese-style curry to America. In 1983, HFC acquired the Hinoichi Tofu brand, one of the oldest and most respected brands in the United States of America, and its manufacturing facility. To suit the American lifestyle while keeping the same tasty and high standards, Hinoichi was renamed as House Premium Tofu. Also in 1983, the first Curry House restaurant was opened in L.A.’s Little Tokyo district, presenting to Americans Japanese food with a twist! In 1997, a new state-of-the-art Tofu manufacturing facility was completed in Garden Grove, Calif. At that time, all three operations were consolidated at this one location for smoother business functions. The New York office was opened in 2000 to expand business on the East Coast. October 2006 brought a brandnew, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to Somerset, N.J., to more easily deliver fresh Tofu. The two manufacturing plants in California and New Jersey have the combined Tofu manufacturing capacity of 350,000 pieces of Tofu per day.
