Award winners and audience members alike will receive celebrity treatment at the 11th Annual NSBE Golden Torch Awards, the climactic closing of this year’s Annual National Convention. Attendees of this black-tie-optional event, honoring the best, brightest and most community-minded black technologists and scientists, will see themselves on monitor, being ushered into the awards ballroom MTV-style up three floors of the Orange County Convention Center, on a red carpet. The ceremony, to be held on Saturday, March 23, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., promises to match the great build-up, with an exciting awards program featuring dance, theatrical performance and a keynote address from the president and chief executive officer of Texas Instruments Incorporated, Rich Templeton. Announcement of NSBE’s 2008–09 National Executive Board and Distinguished Chapters of the Year will immediately follow the Golden Torch Awards presentations. The NSBE Golden Torch Awards link the accomplishments of distinguished black engineers and other black technical professionals with the dreams of college-bound students. Since its inception, GTA has provided more than $330,000 in scholarships to support ambitious high school students, who will, through their achievements, contribute to the legacy of NSBE. We seek an outstanding individual working in traditional and/or emerging areas of industrial engineering. Candidates are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, establish and lead an innovative research program, supervise graduate students, pursue external funding opportunities, and provide service to the University.
