Ae memberS ON ThE mOvE George L. williams, p.E., of the san antonio alumni Chapter and the U.s. army Corps of engineers, has been recognized by the texas section of the american society of Civil engineers (asCe) as government Civil engineer for 2007. Williams, a graduate of historically black Prairie View a&M College, works with the san antonio Joint Program Management office, Contract administration Branch, at Fort sam Houston, texas, and has served with the Corps of engineers since 1986 as a quality assurance representative, project engineer and office engineer. He helped establish the san antonio Branch of asCe’s Younger Members group in 1995, participated on the national asCe diversity Committee in 1997–98 and has spoken at middle and high schools over the past 35 years to encourage students to pursue engineering degrees. Adriane B. Randolph, ph.d., assistant professor of Business Information systems and director of the BrainLab at Kennesaw state University in georgia, had her research on brain-computer interfaces featured in the June 2008 issue of Smart Business Magazine. dr. randolph also was recognized as one of atlanta’s “40 Under 40 Young Professionals on the rise” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle last october. “Braincomputer interfaces allow people to communicate and control devices in their environment without the need for voluntary movement but instead through the use of signals from the brain,” she explained to Smart Business. “the BrainLab is working to discover impactful solutions for brain-computer interfaces by uncovering the underlying characteristics that affect users’ control.” dr. randolph received her Ph.d. in computer information systems from georgia state University and her B.sc. in systems engineering with distinction from the University of Virginia. Anthony murphy of nsBe’s dallas alumni extension received the dallas edge Volunteer of the Year award at the Urban League of greater dallas achievement Matter Luncheon in June. dallas edge is an Urban League program that takes young people out of their everyday environments and exposes them to role models and places that can help them achieve career success. Murphy, a customer quality engineer for texas Instruments Incorporated, is also vice president of the Urban League of greater dallas Young Professionals organization. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from historically black north Carolina a&t state University in 1995 and his M.s.e.e. from the University of Vermont while he was working with IBM Corporation. ae member Crystal m. Smith has taken a job as project manager for CdC Builders, a general contractor and construction management services company based in Miami, Fla. smith is a civil engineer with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she served as nsBe chapter president in 1998–99, and has professional experience in the pharmaceutical, aviation security and health care sectors, as well as in casino projects. Before going to CdC, she was a project engineer and assistant project manager for station Construction, LLC in Las Vegas, nev., and, before that, was a project engineer for turner Construction Company in Miami. a frequent workshop presenter at nsBe conferences, she recently began as a student in the professional M.B.a. program at the University of Florida. 56 • november/december 2008 • www.nsbe.org http://www.nsbe.org
