Message From Our Leadership
YEAR IN REVIEW
2016 was a year that demonstrated tourism's enormous impact on Central Florida. Despite significant challenges, the
industry drove increased visitation, generated record tax revenue and served as the No. 1 job creator in the region. Exciting
announcements and milestones, new attractions and venues, and worldwide marketing and sales outreach kept Orlando
atop the list of the most popular destinations for both conventions and leisure travel.
Our team at Visit Orlando, including our volunteer leaders and talented staff of destination professionals, spent 2016
ensuring visitors continued to positively impact the economy in pacesetting ways. We invite you to read about our efforts
in this report. These stories build on numerous records set in 2016, a year in which the tourism industry in Central Florida
posted incredible numbers.
Visitation to the region in 2016 topped its highest number ever, with 68 million visitors. Record numbers of visitors arrived
through Orlando International Airport. Room nights and convention bookings increased again, and marketing campaigns
exceeded all expectations. All this resulted in record revenue collected for the benefit of our industry and our community.
As we look to the future, we are optimistic for another successful year for Central Florida.
