Lange, bevor es Themenparks und Hotels in Orlando gab, lebten
hier Cowboys in den weiten Ebenen und es gab sanfte, von
Zitrusbäumen bestandene Hügellandschaften. Erfahren Sie
mehr über Orlandos Vergangenheit im Orange County Regional
History Center. Dieses Tochtermuseum des Smithsonian
Institute nimmt Besucher mit auf eine Zeitreise durch die
Geschichte der Stadt, vom bekannten Erdloch, das einen ganzen
Häuserblock verschluckte, zurück zu den Lebensbedingungen
früherer Zeiten in einem Pioneer Cracker-Haus. Das Museum
selbst wurde 1927 erbaut und ist ein historisches Wahrzeichen in
Downtown Orlando.
Ganz gleich, ob Sie klassische Musik oder klassischen Rock
lieben: In Orlando gibt es keinen Mangel an
Veranstaltungsorten für Live-Musik. Im Plaza Live Theatre,
der Heimspielstätte des Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra,
werden musikalische Darbietungen aller Genres gezeigt.
Jeden Februar veranstaltet die Bach Festival Society in Winter
Park ein Festival im Gedenken an ihren Namensgeber, und
während des Jahres geben sich immer wieder verschiedene
Gastkünstler die Ehre. Auch die University of Central Florida
und das Rollins College haben ein umfangreiches
Musikangebot. Beim Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra
kann man aufstrebende Künstler bewundern und an
Veranstaltungsorten wie dem Hard Rock Live oder dem
House of Blues treten regionale und nationale Künstler auf.
Das Casa Feliz Historic Home Museum in Winter Park wurde
von dem berühmten Architekt James Gamble Rogers II
entworfen. Besucher können eine Tour durch dieses
wunderschön renovierte spanische Bauernhaus buchen, in dem
auch im ganzen Jahr Sonderveranstaltungen abgehalten werden.
Nur einige Meilen entfernt liegt das Capen-Showalter House,
das aus dem Jahr 1885 stammt. Es ist eines der wenigen
Gebäude, die noch aus der Gründungszeit der Stadt erhalten
sind. Es wurde in zwei Hälften zerlegt, mit dem Boot über
Lake Osceola gefahren und im Albin Polasek Museum and
Sculpture Gardens wieder aufgebaut. Heute können Besucher

in Orlando zu schätzen wissen. Winter Park allein verfügt

von Lake Osceola ist das Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture
