The oatmeal and
berries that fuel a long
hike is all organic. You know it by
the labeling. But what about your
backpack, boots, and bike?
The founders of a new certification program hope a new label for
carbon neutrality will become a
recognizable symbol of a compa-

ny's environmental stewardship
with consumers.
"We're hoping that Joe Public will be as aware of Climate
Neutral as they are of certified
organic," says Peter Dering,
founder and CEO of Peak Design
who, along with Jonathan Cedar,
the founder of BioLite, is spearheading the effort.
The nonprofit initiative aims to
be a carbon-neutrality certification
/ SUMMER MARKET 2019
program that will help companies
understand and mitigate their
carbon footprints, buy offsets, and
communicate their commitment
to customers. Immediate action on
climate change-and zeroing out
a brand's carbon footprint-is not
only possible, it's easier and more
economical than people think.
Dering is dreaming big with
Climate Neutral, and he's already
successfully recruited a big name
to serve as spokesman of the initiative. Today at the Show, pro climber Alex Honnold will moderate the
panel discussion on the program at
10 a.m. at The Camp. Brands can
