draw from the American Alpine
Club's treasure chest of games and
content. Participants pull out an
object that will have programmed
elements that correspond to it
with various challenges and swag
incentives for playing along. All
skill levels welcome.

COOL ACTION: SAY GOODBYE TO PLASTICS

The annual industry breakfast features keynote speaker Afdhel Aziz, a man on
a mission (hey, just look at that stormtrooper on his bookshelf). After witnessing the devastation of the 2004 South Asian tsunami on his native Sri Lanka,
Aziz was inspired to help companies find purpose rather than sheer profit.
Feeling that same vibe is Stanley, which-along with sustainability-minded
standbys PrimaLoft and Bluesign-has long been a steadfast sponsor of the
Show's opening event. "We as an industry have a responsibility to our environment. We make products that should mitigate waste, especially at our own
trade show," says Michelle Fleming, marketing manager for Stanley. The brand
decided it would invite competitors Yeti, Mizu, MiiR, CamelBak, Klean Kanteen, GSI, and EcoVessel to join the crusade. "This summer, Stanley is sharing
the sponsorship with our competitors to drive home the message of reducing
single-use plastic and waste at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. That dedication may also score breakfast attendees some planet-friendly swag. Not only
are we all donating product to the Plastic Impact Alliance, but we are donating
product to the OIA Breakfast." The breakfast will be held on Day 1 at 7 a.m. in

Belay Program is designed to help

Textile Repurposing Station

Student designers from Utah State
University's Outdoor Product Design and Development program will
demonstrate how they transform
scrap materials into functional and
beautiful designs. Learn about the
power of upcycling and pick up a
free upcycled chalk bag. Choose
one the students have already made
or pick your own fabric from the
pile of scrap material, and they'll
make you a bag on the spot.
Mural Painting with Brandy Serikaku
9 a.m.-5 p.m., 49081-UL
Brandy Serikaku, a designer and
muralist from Hilo, Hawaii, will be in
OluKai's booth painting a mural inspired by her native island. Serikaku
is an accomplished designer whose
art appears on SS20 OluKai shoes.
Come meet the artist, "talk story"
with her, and add your own bit of
art to her mural.

ocean conservationist.
