There are plenty of happenings on
the wall at Summer Market.
There are more opportunities than
ever to hop on a climbing wall at and
around the Show. On the floor, the
High Altitude Den elevates previous
iterations of the core climbing area
of the Show with an improved wall
for demos, testing, and showing off.
Happenings here will run the gamut
from a mini Olympics to universal
belay certification (look for sessions
throughout this schedule).
After hours, head to The Spot's
brand-new bouldering gym location,
just a few blocks from the Colorado
Convention Center at 1235 Delaware
Street (thespotgym.com/denver).
Better yet, plan for some post-show
time at the largest climbing gym in
North America, Earth Treks in Englewood (earthtreksclimbing.com/englewood). Today, June 18, from 5 to 11
p.m., Earth Treks will be hosting The Hang (see page 26), an open competition for
pros and pretenders with a $5,000 cash purse and tons of swag prizes. The event
is free for Summer Market badge holders (space is limited so register here: bit.
ly/2HzwTzd). Profits from the event will support local initiatives in Colorado and

The US-China Trade War: How Additional Tariffs on Imports from China

The trade dispute between China
and the U.S. continues to worsen.
President Trump recently increased
punitive tariffs on $200 billion worth
of products sourced from China from
10 percent to 25 percent, including
backpacks, sports bags, leather ski
gloves, headwear, kayaks, and camp
chairs. Trump has also called for an
import tax of "up to 25 percent" on
$300 billion in additional goods including all outdoor apparel, footwear,
and sporting goods, significantly raising costs for outdoor companies and
consumers and dealing another blow
to the outdoor recreation economy.
