is easy to use. The sliding "on"
switch naturally pops into transmit mode and it takes a specific
yet uncomplicated maneuver to
bump it into search mode quickly
when disaster strikes. The Evo5
boasts a 50-meter search bandwidth, group check mode, a mark
function for multiple burials, and a
programmable automatic backto-transmit feature. The device
only takes one AA battery, is
smaller and slimmer than most
avy beacons on the market, and
only weighs 170g. Its harness can
be worn holster-style with the
beacon against the body or as a
simple around-the-waist anchor
with the Evo5 stowed in the user's

5. Ross Snow Tech
The Convert
The team at Ross Snow Tech has
developed a way to save weight
by making a pair of snowboard
bindings that convert (hence the
name) into snowshoes. Owner and designer Alex Swaynie
says the dual-purpose design
eliminates roughly five pounds
in weight and the need to strap
snowshoes onto a backpack
for descents. Users can keep
their boots in the bindings when
converting between modes. With
practice, the toolless transition
can be done in less than 30
seconds. The snowshoes are 26
inches long but relatively narrow,
so they won't offer incredible
float in deep powder. The construction, however, does allow
for an aluminium crampon to be
dropped in for extra purchase on
slippery terrain (the user does
have to get out of the binding to
insert the crampon, which is sold
separately). The variable heel cup
adjuster allows The Convert to
accommodate boot sizes from 8

6. Igloo ReCool
Leading the charge against
environmentally unfriendly single-use disposable Styrofoam
coolers, Igloo had its biodegradable disposable cooler at the
Show. Unlike traditional disposable coolers, the ReCool won't
sit in a landfill for 500 years
once its time has passed. It's in

no way designed to compete
with the big rotomolded coolers that have gained popularity
over the past few years, but it
fills an existing niche with a more
eco-friendly alternative (think
last-minute road-trip stock-up
on ice and beer). Igloo says the
ReCool is strong enough to hold
75 pounds, it won't wet through,
and simply letting the inside dry
out will return it to a useable
condition. ReCool will release
this summer as an REI exclusive
and will then roll out to additional

7. Roxa R3 130 T.I.
Ski Boot
Part of Roxa's Freeride Ski Boot
series, the award-winning Roxa
R3 T.I. is loved by some of the
world's best skiers, including the
mohawk-sporting legend Glen
Plake. The Grilamid boot has a
99mm last and uses Roxa's Next
Gen three-piece Cabrio construction. In a 26.5 size, it weighs
only 1,520g and features three
buckles-a power strap buckle,
a heel lock buckle, and a cable
buckle at the forefoot. Other
features include an easy-entry
open-throat shell, a flexible polyamide tongue, high shell walls,
and an open rear shell with a
comfortable hiking function that
locks down for downhill performance. The R3 T.I. comes with a
custom Intuition heat moldable

8. Stöckli Laser AR
New for the 2019-20 season, the
Laser AR is the brand's "AllRound" ski inspired by Stöckli's
successful Laser race series.
Instead of the notched S-pattern
in the titanal layer, which is found
in the race skis, the Laser AR has
a split in the tip's titanal insert to
provide more lateral flexibility for
easier turn initiation and more
edge contact. The ski has a 16.5m
radius, an aluminium tail bar, and
measures 130-83-112 in the 175cm
length. Like its ski-racing brethren, the AR features a wood-core
construction and Stöckli's 3.0 Top
Sheet Structure with different
textures to improve durability and
minimize scratching. | $1,249
