Rising Tide
The outbreak of COVID-19 put 4Ocean's work of selling products to clear the
seas of plastic waste on hold-but the company is headed back to work with a
spirit of cautious optimism. By Bevin Wallace

We are very fortunate to
have a very, very passionate core team that stayed
on board and essentially
worked for free throughout

beating into my team, "Hey,
these are character-building opportunities." And
one of my team members
sent me a quote that said,
"Crises are not character
building, they're character
revealing." Through these
challenges, the true character of your team and your
suppliers and your retailers
are really revealed.
It's been difficult hearing
these clichés, "We're all in
this together," and "uncertain
times." But it's hard to step
away from those. I mean, this
is unprecedented; these are
very, very trying times.
For the vast majority of our
employees and our retailers
and our suppliers, everybody gets it. Everybody has
that empathy.
We've gone back to that really
scrappy startup mode; we're 3
1/2 years old, but we've gone
back to year-one mentality.
It's all hands on deck.
