has no expiration date. This data isn't limited to
what we can tell from call detail record (CDR)
data and triangulation, but a precisely calculated
combination of GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and cell
towers can paint a much clearer map of where,
when, and what a user has been doing. All of this
data is readily available and up for the taking in
any litigation.
The cloud can also contain entire copies of
physical devices. Apple offers full device backups
via iCloud, as does Google with their Google
Drive service. Often even if the mobile device in
question was lost, damaged, or simply does not
contain the data needed it can be recovered from
a cloud backup.
Today's digital forensic experts facing
ever-growing challenges when it comes to
obtaining and finding hidden data. In recent
years the explosion of unstructured digital
information available online means that there
are more data points now than ever to analyze

and sift through during an investigation. To put
big data in perspective; YouTube users upload 48
hours of new video every sixty seconds, Facebook
receives over 100 terabytes of new data every
day, AT&T has over 1.9 trillion call records stored
in its database, and every single minute over 550
new websites go live. Data overload is happening
now, and it shows no signs of stopping anytime
soon. Add to that the issues of data being "out of
jurisdiction" and that major technology companies
such as Google and Apple have begun defying
judges' orders in criminal investigations, refusing
to turn over digital evidence of crimes because of
increasingly stringent privacy laws abroad. Should
you have a criminal matter that involves technology (which likely does) it is always important to
seek out highly trained and experienced certified
digital forensic experts that can assist you in your
investigation to properly collect and preserve your
electronic data and ultimately for it to be entered
into evidence and admissible in court.
