Spotlight MAKING CONNECTIONS Customers can combine Southwest and AirTran flights on a single reservation. One Step Closer to One LUV At Southwest Airlines, we are always looking for opportunities to give our Customers more. The acquisition of AirTran Airways in 2011 has allowed us to do exactly that, and, thanks to the recent connection of the two airlines’ networks, we are pleased to offer more flights to more destinations. Full integration will be completed by the end of 2014. In the meantime, we are working hard to ensure that Customers don’t have to wait to enjoy the benefits of our extended route network. One of the most valuable results of the fully connected Southwest-AirTran network is that Customers now have the Freedom to Fly to 97 destinations in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and six near-international countries. Additionally, Members of the airlines’ Frequent Flyer programs— Southwest’s Rapid Rewards and AirTran’s A+ Rewards—can currently transfer their points or credits between the two, allowing them to redeem for either Southwest or AirTran flights. “With a connected network, we can offer Customers more itineraries, more destinations, more low fares, and a taste of what’s to come once the integration is complete,” says Bob Jordan, 138 SPIRIT AUGUST 2013 Southwest’s Chief Commercial Officer and the President of AirTran. Customers are now able to add one or more AirTran domestic flight segments to a Southwest itinerary, using Southwest booking channels such as southwest.com. Customers may also book Southwest flight segments connecting to an AirTran itinerary through AirTran channels like airtran.com. This means that for the first time Southwest Customers can connect international AirTran segments to Southwest segments in a single reservation purchased through AirTran. Wanna get away? We suggest Cancún, Los Cabos, Mexico City, Montego Bay, Nassau, or Punta Cana— international hot spots all made accessible through our newly connected route network. Eventually, all AirTran flights will be integrated into the Southwest brand within a single network, reservation system, and Frequent Flyer loyalty program.
