Jay Howard is president of
JHE Production Group, an
event experience company
that works coast to coast.
Tell us about what you do.
JHE is a live events company. We produce
experiential marketing tours for major corporations like Sprint, Fox Sports, Ford, Aaron’s, and
others at sporting and live entertainment events.
How often do you travel?
I usually take about two to three dozen trips a
year. It’s mostly domestic routes but covering
both coasts.
When is your next trip?
I’m headed to Glasgow with my son to spend
eight days golfing in Scotland.
What’s your favorite part of flying?
Do you sleep, work, or read in flight?
Jay’s
travel tip:
USE AN APP TO
TRACK YOUR
FLIGHTS OR
GET A FLIGHTSTATUS TOOL.
I purposely book flights with Wi-Fi because
that’s one, two, or three more hours of productivity.
Do you have a favorite airport?
Charlotte. There’s no way your favorite airport
can’t be home.
What’s your favorite frequent-flyer perk?
I’m a Chairman’s Preferred, so it’s the upgrades
What’s a place on your bucket list and what are some
of your favorite destinations?
I’ve always wanted to go to Scotland to play
golf, which I’ll be doing shortly. A few of my
other favorite destinations are Maui and Turks
and Caicos. I love the fact that I can get there
with just one or two flights.
Who do you wish you could sit next to on a flight?
Arnold Palmer. I use the terms “gentleman’s
gentleman” and “statesman” because, to me,
that’s the way he carries himself.
Window or aisle?
Aisle during the day and window at night.
During the day I’m on Wi-Fi and working,
and at night I want to sit next to the wall so
I can sleep.

For me it’s the spoiling effect of living in
Charlotte and having so many nonstop flights
available. It’s also the fact that I do fly out of a
hub city, and quite a few of the flight attendants
and gate agents are based here as well. Sometimes our company has twenty to thirty
employees traveling to the same place, so the
gate agents and airport workers get to know us.
— which can spoil you. I also use miles to
buy last-minute tickets for business travel for
my employees.
