thank You for
Flying with us
Our Special Commitment
★
If you look around
the cabin today,
you might see a service
member traveling with
you. US Airways honors
the bravery and dedication
of active-duty and veteran
military members and
participates in initiatives
to honor their service.
Some of the ways we
support current and former members of the military include special rates,
support of nonprofit organizations, and employee
participation in events and activities.
US Airways offers military airfares and waives
baggage fees for active-duty service members and
their dependents. We also invite those active-duty
service members in uniform to be among the first
to board our flights.
Our commitment to supporting U.S. troops,
veterans, and their families has been recognized by
two respected magazines. This spring, US Airways
and American Airlines, with whom we anticipate
closing our merger in the third quarter of this year,
were named as “Best of the Best Top Veteran-
2011
2012
2013
Our Medals of Honor
Friendly Companies” by U.S. Veterans Magazine.
The two airlines will be spotlighted for our support
of veterans and efforts to hire a diverse workforce
in the magazine’s summer issue, on newsstands
August 15. This is the second year in a row that
US Airways has earned high marks from the
magazine. We were also named a “Best for Vets”
employer in 2011, 2012, and 2013 by Military
Times Edge magazine.
This past spring, the selfless actions of a customer toward a serviceman received high marks
from one of our pilots, Captain John McKenna,
who shared the following letter with me:
I recently flew a trip from Philadelphia to
San Juan. On that trip I met a passenger named
John Adams who has become a hero to me. He
stood at the boarding door and picked a member
of the armed services to take his seat in Envoy, our
business class cabin, and he took the soldier’s seat
in Coach. The flight attendant said he has seen
this gentleman do this before. I introduced myself
and thanked him for his patriotism and generosity. He was sitting in a full row working on his
computer when I stopped by. He said it was his
pleasure to sit back in Coach as the uniformed
service member took his lie-flat seat. How great is
that in this day and age?
We think it’s pretty great, too, and we thank
Mr. Adams for his kindness and generosity and
Captain McKenna for sharing this story.
On behalf of the 32,000 employees of
US Airways, thank you for flying with us today.
We hope that you enjoy your travels and that we
see you again soon on another flight.
US Airways is proud to be named a Best For Veterans employer
by Military Times Edge magazine for three years in a row
