By Tara Titcombe ★ Although US Airways and American are now one company, both airlines will continue operating as two separate carriers until they achieve a Single Operating Certificate, which is the FAA's official approval to operate as one airline and carrier. This step in the merger is expected to happen 18 to 24 months from now. US Airways now has a codeshare agreement with American, which means that you can seamlessly book travel throughout either airline's network. You can also earn Dividend Miles on American flights and vice versa. All reservations you currently hold with either airline will not be affected, and you can continue to book flights on usairways.com or aa.com. Be sure to check in and manage your flight reservations on the operating carrier's website. There also are no changes to either airline's loyalty program at this time. Your frequent-flyer miles are in place and secure. The Dividend Miles and AAdvantage programs will eventually merge into a single frequent-flyer program. US Airways will exit from Star Alliance on March 30. The airline will join the oneworld® alliance on March 31. Through oneworld, you can connect to nearly 1,000 destinations in more than 150 countries.
