BETTER, STRONGER, FASTER A Charlotte USA manufacturer gives everyone from NASCAR drivers to Olympic champions a high-speed boost. By Sam Boykin ★ While the Winter Olympics ended only four months ago, Hans deBot already has his sights set on 2018. deBot is not an athlete but rather the owner of deBotech Inc., which played an unlikely role in the record-setting victories of the men's and women's U.S. bobsled teams in Sochi, Russia, last February. An experienced mechanical engineer, deBot launched deBotech out of his Cornelius, North Carolina, garage, where he developed strong and lightweight carbon-fiber parts for the NASCAR industry. deBot's operation eventually caught the attention of folks like Olympic bobsled athlete Bruce Roselli and former NASCAR driver and bobsled builder Geoff Bodine. Soon deBotech was off and running - or sliding - into Olympic bobsled racing.
