By Nicole Esplin ★ GREENSBORO, NC For five weeks this summer, a symphony of strings, wind instruments, and piano will fill Greensboro, North Carolina's historic Guilford College campus during the Eastern Music Festival (EMF), where worldrenowned professionals and talented young musicians team up and perform daily from June 23 to July 26. 72 MAY 2014 usairwaysmag.com "There is a lot of excitement at the camp, and the students are expected to perform as adults," Executive Director Stephanie Cordick says. This year, the festival will feature Sir James Galway, president of the British Flute Society and former principal flutist of the Berlin Philharmonic. Sir Galway performs July 5 and will instruct students alongside other guest artists including violinist Elmar Oliveira, the only American violinist to win a gold medal at the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow. Other Festival events will include piano competitions among students, workshops for children and adults, and collaborations with the Greensboro Opera and the Greensboro Ballet.
