Southern Ground family. ★ By now many of you know Zac Brown as a country-music superstar. The mastermind behind “Chicken Fried.” The lead singer of a band that earned the 2010 Grammy for Best New Artist, followed by another the next year for “As She’s Walking Away” with Alan Jackson. But did you know that this 34-year-old Georgia boy is also a husband, father, restaurateur, entrepreneur, record label owner, and children’s advocate behind a grand enterprise — more like a lifestyle — called Southern Ground? “We manufacture all of our own T-shirts for all of our shows for all of our artists,” Zac explains. “We have our own film company that produces all of our media, our music videos, and our live DVDs. “We sell leather goods at the shows along with the shirts. Everything is all-American-made, and everything is in-house. I hire a lot of folks and friends to help us service all our companies.” Ain’t that the truth! First, there’s Southern Ground Grub, the company that puts out his sauces and cookbooks. Before he became known as the Zac of the Zac Brown Band, he was known as the Zac of Zac’s Place, a restaurant in Lake Oconee, Georgia, where he dished out soul food. “I love to grill and smoke,” he says. “I like to make candied sweet potatoes, fig preserves, and muscadine conserve.
