TEAM-BUILDING
THROUGH SERVICE
American's Global Sales
team builds connections
while making a difference.
By Megan Morrow
Every year, the Global Sales Conference
gives American Airlines team members
from around the world the opportunity to network and connect with new colleagues. The
event, however, isn't all business - part of this
two-day conference is dedicated to fostering team-building among employees while
giving back to the community.
During the 2014 conference in Dallas, the Global Sales team stuffed 5,000 special
edition American Airlines JoyJars® with small toys, accessories, and activities to send
to children who are unable to leave the hospital during their battle with cancer.
JoyJars were developed by 12-year-old Jessie Rees, a young girl who chose to deliver
love and encouragement to her peers while fighting two brain tumors of her own.
Although Jessie lost her battle in January 2012, her legacy lives on in the more than
80,000 JoyJars that have been sent to children to inspire them to NEGU, or "Never Ever
Give Up" - Jessie's motto during her fight.
American Airlines Vice President of Global Sales Derek DeCross hand-delivered 200
JoyJars to the Children's Medical Center of Dallas. "Nothing brings a team together like
finding opportunities to help others," said Derek. "These events give you perspective -
they keep you grounded and thankful for every day you have to make a difference."
