their family fishing and enjoy the day. Even visitors from
other states have a chance to come and enjoy the waterways
of Pennsylvania. The Glessners have several friends and
family who live out of state who have recently planned trips
to visit around these days, so they can do some fishing while
visiting friends. Jeremy and Lisa are both looking forward to
the next free fishing opportunity.

Gander Mountain and frequently inquire about the dates
for Pennsylvania’s Fish-for-Free Days. It’s a busy time
during the season, and there’s a lot of interest in fishing
in the summer. “The program is good for the not so
aspiring angler to get started,” said Krautz. He likes that
it coincides with the holidays. This is when most people
have more time and availability and may be in town from
other states. It gives everyone in the family a chance to
try a new sport or to share their knowledge. Sam inspired
me to name this article “Share the Knowledge,” because
that’s just what we do.

Paul Robertson, Youngwood, has taken his wife on
Fish-for-Free Days on numerous occasions. They went
trout fishing on one trip and really enjoyed the day. Paul
had a friend at work that didn’t fish but would always
take his grandfather fishing on the Fish-for-Free Days,
because his grandfather could not drive. Paul always
made sure he provided him with the correct dates, so he
and his grandfather could make a plan to fish. Having
Fish-for-Free Days on the holidays makes it much easier
to remember. These are critical dates to these gentlemen,
because his grandfather took him hunting and fishing
when he was growing up. He wanted to show him how
much he was appreciated by returning the favor. That was
inspirational to me.
As an avid angler, it is your duty to share your fishing
knowledge with others. You don’t have to share your
favorite top-secret fishing hole, but share your excitement,
and be enthusiastic while you are teaching. Your attitude
will spread like wildfire and so will your love of the sport.
Try to remember what inspired you. It’s worth sharing.

Family Fishing Programs are educational programs provided by PFBC and their partners that are designed for
families with little or no fishing experience. Families learn basic fishing skills and have an opportunity to practice
those skills while fishing together during the program.
In addition, during May, PFBC will be conducting Family Fishing Events at various locations. These events will
include Family Fishing Programs and provide a learning experience for families in preparation for the May 27 Fishfor-Free Day (Memorial Day), as well as a lifetime of recreational fun.
