Copper Line Tr olling by Ross Robertson photo-Art Michaels Lake Trout, Steelhead and Walleye anglers are always looking for a way to get lures deeper, easier. Copper line trolling does this quickly and efficiently, which is why it is gaining steam so quickly. Copper line isn't new. I can remember my mentor using it nearly 20 years ago, but today's copper handles much easier and is available in several different options at a reasonable cost. What is copper? photo-Ross Robertson 28 When using longer leads such as this 300 feet of 32-pound copper line, you will need a reel with a large enough capacity to fill with both the copper and backing material. Pennsylvania Angler & Boater * July/August 2014 Copper line is woven, similar to the way nylon rope is constructed. Several manufacturers have a coating on the line in order to make it more pliable, which is why it has a silver tint instead of the orange or copper color. The concept is that the entire length of the line is a sinker and will help force your lure down, whereas lead core has a small lead core with a large synthetic sheath. The sheath protects the brittle lead core. PFBC Facebook: PaFishandBoat
