CURRENTS
Watershed Management and Coldwater Conservation Education

The Cumberland Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited
is holding the 21st annual Rivers Conservation and Fly
Fishing Youth Camp on June 21-26, 2015 at the Allenberry
Resort, Boiling Springs.
The curriculum is based on college level classes.
Students are instructed in ecology, aquatic biology,
geology, hydrogeology, erosion and sedimentation control,
ichthyology, riparian corridor protection, watershed
management, entomology and more.
Admission will be limited to 32 qualified students.
Students, ages 14 to 17, will be selected through an
application process, and the applicants must have been
born between June 26, 1997, and June 21, 2001.
All applications must be postmarked no later than

Rivers Conservation and
Fly Fishing Youth Camp

In October, Dee Fisher, Pennsylvania Fish & Boat
Commission (PFBC) Central Region Outreach and Education
Coordinator, met with over 20 agencies at Capital Region Water
to discuss ways to collaborate to bring watershed management
and coldwater conservation education to students of the
Harrisburg School District (HSD). Cheryl Capozzoli, the
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Coordinator for HSD initiated the meeting. The group quickly
formed plans and ignited enthusiasm among other agencies not
in attendance. Jennifer Fetter, Watershed/Youth Development
Educator for Penn State Extension, pulled together a proposal
to offer long-term, in-classroom training opportunities to
teachers in the school district. The hope is that teachers will
