TREATING TRAUMA:
Some days change you forever. Ten years ago, when Danielle Potteiger
was an 18-year-old camp counselor, one of her campers was injured,
and she panicked: "Seeing the EMTs and medics do what they did and
how calm they were is what made me join the EMT program that same
semester," she says.

Potteiger became an EMT and nurse's aide, and then enrolled in PA
College's Respiratory Care program. After graduation, she joined the
Air Force Reserves and the trauma unit at Hershey Medical Center,
where she continues to work as she pursues her bachelor's degree in
health sciences at PA College. "I travel pretty frequently with the
military," Potteiger explains. "I fly with hazardous material and make
sure it's safe to fly and gets to where it needs to go."
For her, getting her health
sciences degree is the logical
next step in a career focused
on helping others through
challenging situations.

"I don't think of it as a
transition but as continuing
to better myself through
more education."

"I don't think of it as a transition but as continuing to better myself
through more education," Potteiger says. "After graduation, my plan is
to apply for physician assistant school though the military and join the
active duty medical trauma team."
