STUDENT PROFILE
A Heart for Helping People

Logan Martin '24 never planned to go
to college. While a student at Garden
Spot High School in New Holland,
Pennsylvania, he decided that he didn't
like school. His mother had other plans.
She arranged tours of nearby colleges
during his junior year, and after visiting
PA College of Health Sciences, Martin
changed his mind. " I fell in love with
the hospital administration program,
did a dual enrollment program when I
was a high school senior, and shadowed
at Penn Medicine Lancaster General
Hospital, " says Martin, who is currently
enrolled in the BA in Healthcare
Administration program. " Turns out,
I am a fan of learning. "
As the first student ambassador for
the program, Martin spends much of
his time talking up the College and a
career in health care administration
with high school students across
the region. Along with PA College's
Education Innovation Partner, Serena
Chamness, MEd, CHES, Martin has
led nearly 40 Zoom sessions this year
and is excited to begin in-person
meetings in the fall. Over the summer,
he volunteered at the College's
Health Care Careers Academy Camp.
" I would have loved for someone to
talk to me about careers when I was
in high school, " Martin says. In sharing
his path to PA College, he offers
well-earned advice. " I always tell them
to shadow before high school and
to do the dual enrollment program,
which gave me a jump start in college.
I will graduate a semester early, and I
felt more comfortable going into my
freshman year at PA College. "
In addition to full-time classes and his
role as a student ambassador, Martin
works part time as a patient care host
at Penn Medicine Lancaster General
Hospital and hopes to land there after
graduating.
" I love leadership and the business of
health care, " he says. " I've always had
a heart for helping people, and that's
what administration is. " n
