New Cardiac Sonography Program
Say Congrats!
The first-ever doctoral degrees were awarded
by the College to graduates of our Doctor of
Nursing Practice program.
Central Penn Business Journal recently
chose President Mary Grace Simcox for its
" Women of Influence " award. Honorees are
selected based on their professional experience,
community involvement, leadership and
a commitment to mentoring. " Serving as
President of PA College has provided me the
opportunity to support thousands of people who
have the same goals as I do - to make an impact
in their communities through health care, " said
President Simcox. " To be recognized for doing
this work that I love to do is a deep privilege. "
Tiffany Weinsheimer '23, a student in our
Associate of Science in Nursing evening/
weekend program and full-time LPN, won a
scholarship from the Nightingale Awards of
Pennsylvania. This prestigious award recognizes
academic achievement, leadership potential,
community service and personal commitment
to the profession of nursing.
The Commission on Accreditation for
Respiratory Care (CoARC) recently honored
PA College's Respiratory Care program
with The President's Award for Excellence in
Credentialing Success. Only 23 schools in the
country earned this distinction.
This fall, Cardiac Sonography joins our growing offerings
in the allied health professions. This new program is the
college's third option in the ultrasound specialty, adding to
Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Vascular Sonography,
which debuted in the fall of 2019. Using ultrasound
equipment, cardiac sonographers conduct echocardiograms
to obtain images of the heart's structure and function, which
is critical in identifying serious health conditions. While
many echocardiograms are performed on adult patients
at rest or after exercise, cardiac sonographers also conduct
cardiac sonograms on pediatric patients and during surgical
procedures.
Students can enroll in either a two-year associate degree track,
or a one-year academic certificate track for learners who
already hold an associate or bachelor's degree, or who will
meet the cardiac sonography requirements upon program
completion. Curriculum includes three clinical rotations at
health care facilities and hands-on instruction in the College's
on-campus ultrasound suite.
" With the debut of our Cardiac Sonography program, PA
College is meeting a growing need within the health care
community, " explained Clinical Coordinator Veronica
Eubanks, BSBA, RDCS. According to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics, about 12,000 openings for medical sonographers
and cardiovascular technologists are projected every year from
