Greetings
In caring for our patients, we spend much of
our time helping them maintain good health
or recover from illness or injury. Sometimes,
however, we are called upon to care for them
during their final days. When this happens, we
do everything we can to ensure they spend those
days as peacefully, and with as much dignity, as
possible. This spring I witnessed exceptional care
and skill as my sister came to the end of her life
in hospice care. The compassion of her hospice staff provided tremendous comfort to my
sister and our family during a harrowing time.
With that memory still fresh in my mind, I am so very proud of the alumni and students
featured in the end-of-life article starting on page 8. They exemplify all that we hope our
students will provide to their patients - empathy, superb care and a reassuring hand in a
moment of need.
