operate generation and transmission resources, schedule maintenance, and plan capacity expansion. One example of optimization with streaming data is useful for the commercial utility customer side. With the increasing popularity of EVs and battery storage, a new type of BTM electricity consumer has emerged who needs access to streaming data and analytics. Large energy consumers that operate solar, battery storage, and EV charging can use analytics to help them coordinate these resources optimally. Application programming interfaces (APIs) that give real-time access to local rate schedules and real-time energy usage can feed analytical models that will orchestrate the usage of EV charging and battery storage optimally. Optimization is also a key enabler of deep learning. The objective is to create a model that represents the system with the highest accuracy in the quickest way possible. A simple applied example is using least squares to minimize errors and find the regression model that best fits the data.
