the electric power industry is ex -
periencing more intense weather
anomalies with higher frequencies
and continues to rely on historical
weather data to identify critical
spots in a distribution network to
provide reliable power to customers.
Going forward, accurate ice storm
and weather forecasts will play an
essential role in resilience preparedness
and response processes. Moreover,
power distribution lines are
intertwined with the local transportation
network.
Therefore, using mobile deicing
scheduling and routing to avoid power
distribution network outages is
directly linked to the transportation
network availability. This article presents
a power distribution system
resilience-enhancement strategy
during ice storms and describes
how the deicing of ice-covered lines
during severe ice storms can maintain
infrastructure security and
resilience. It presents ice storm forecasting
strategies, the use of mobile
and portable deicing equipment in
a distribution network, and the
transportation network role in
mobile deicing equipment routing in
severe conditions.
