hvdc and fActs Renovation in
the Western power system" discusses the renovation of hvdc
and fActs projects throughout
the U.s. western power system.
the many engineers who modernized the pacific hvdc intertie
successfully dealt with extraordinarily complex equipment and
major unexpected events. the article also discusses several older
facilities that were either retired
or are not yet scheduled for refurbishment as well as some new
hvdc facilities.
✔ "Making old new Again: hvdc
and fActs in the northeastern
United states and canada" summarizes various approaches used
for refurbishing projects that were
beginning to show signs of aging, not meeting present system
requirements, or performing inadequately. the global examination
of multiple facilities as candidates
for upgrades is particularly useful
for minimizing adverse long-term
economic and reliability effects
on the overall system. Different
approaches for different facilities
are appropriate. some facilities
are suitable for gradual upgrades,
while others ought to be replaced
in their entirety. (this article struck
a personal note because i was involved in the planning of several
hvdc and fActs installations in
the northeast.)

refurbishments throughout north
America, europe, and Asia. the
article features a facility where a replacement hvdc terminal was built
in a different location and the transfer capability was upgraded. the
