The fourth article by Uluski and the
ge team offers a totally different perspective from the previous one. The first
part of this article briefly describes how
the community microgrid was conceived
and planned, leading to the success story
of microgrid implementation at the Philadelphia navy Yard. The authors describe how The navy Yard (TnY) is being transformed from the 1930s vintage
shipyard system to a modern microgrid.
The primary focus of the article is on
a small, yet very important, part of TnY
called the gridsTar microgrid. The
authors discuss the functional requirements and performance indices expected to be achieved as part of the doesponsored project. The article concludes
with the four types of tests being conducted to fully evaluate the controller
and its functions. essentially, the article
deals with the details of the design, development, and implementation of the
gridsTar microgrid controller at TnY.
"networked Microgrids" is the title of
the fifth article, and it is a success story of
the full implementation of a networked
with the proliferation of ders, traditional operational models, including sensing and computational tools, will not be
enough to meet future needs. Based on
their experience, they have found that
this creates challenges for utilities when
interconnected to their networks They
stress that the monitoring and control
layer (some call it the iT layer) will need
transformation to adequately integrate

his associates introduce the idea of the
emerging transactive microgrid controller. The technology framework provided in this article offers a blueprint for
a complete technology solution that can
be adapted to microgrids with diverse
requirements. The solution they propose
microgrid as a pilot at the iiT-Bronzville
campus. Bronzeville is a community
located in the city of chicago, which features a diverse historic district with essential city services, residential housing,
and educational institutions. according
to the authors, "driven by descending
costs of ders, microgrids are becoming more appealing for managing the
variability of renewable energy. This
article has explored the possibility of
clustering adjacent microgrids to form
regionally networked microgrids. networked microgrids are operated in
close coordination so that they can improve the operational performance of
individual microgrids. networked microgrid operations will benefit both the
utility grid and electricity customers as
microgrids enhance power system reliability, resilience, economics, security,
and sustainability. The networking of
microgrids is potentially advantageous
to strengthening the role of distributed
systems in smart grid implementation."
rojas and rousan, in the sixth article, make a convincing argument that,
