Since 2010, many organizations, sector associations, and governments have
developed their own long-term "road
map" analyses. Most notably, the european Commission developed long-term
scenarios, which it brought together in
a 2050 low-carbon economy road map
(March 2011) and a 2050 energy road
map (december 2011). These analyses have defined the solution space for
the debate on a post-2020 climate and
energy policy framework.
The quantity and diversity of longterm modeling available today has
increased the profile of the road map
as a tool for long-term policy guidance in the climate and energy debate
and has helped establish a common
understanding around the core levers
of the long-term vision. The european Commission called it the "no
