THE TECHNICAL ACTIVITIES OF
the IEEE Power & Energy Society
(PES) are coordinated by the PES Technical Council. The current officers of
the PES Technical Council are Vijay
Vittal, chair; Hong Chen, vice chair;
Diane Watkins, secretary; and Farnoosh
Rahmatian, past chair. The chair of the
PES Technical Council also serves as
the PES vice president for Technical
Activities. The PES Technical Council
coordinates the activities of 17 technical
committees (TCs) and four coordinating committees:

These committees, which were reorganized in July 2016, are responsible for
the technical activities in each of their
subdisciplines within the broad power
and energy discipline. They conduct
technical activities including the development of standards, technical reports,
and technical sessions for various PES
technical meetings-paper, poster,
panel, and super sessions-and identify,

explore, and provide solutions to emerging topics of interest within their subdisciplines. TCs conduct various technical
activities through subcommittees, working groups, and task forces.
A detailed description of the various
TCs and their activities can be viewed by
navigating to each committee's website
from the PES Technical Council website, https://www.ieee-pes.org/tech
nical-activities. These websites clearly
state the scope of each committee's activities and include a flyer that provides
a succinct description of the activities
of each TC. Many of the committees
have meetings during the PES General
Meeting, the PES T&D Conference and
Exposition, and the Joint Technical
Committee Meeting. Additionally,
many hold multiple meetings during the
year to conduct their activities. The
PES Technical Council website provides updated information on committee meetings held outside the PES
General Meeting and other conferences.
An important responsibility of the
PES Technical Council is the design and
planning of the technical program for
the annual PES General Meeting. This
includes planning the super sessions and
technical paper and poster sessions. The
TCs coordinate the conference paper reviews and plan the panel sessions.
The IEEE Industry Technical Support Leadership Committee (ITSLC),
formed by the governing board, provides
support to and cooperates with governments, regulators, and other industry
organizations globally on technical issues related to power, -energy, and policy
