expected to reduce the maximum
capacity of each curtailment operation by 9%.

On 2 March 2019, the Kyushu
area experienced an extreme PV
forecast error (overgeneration). As
depicted in Figure 14, the actual
PV generation was 3.5 GW lower
than had been forecast at 10 a.m.
the previous day, whereas the
demand was 0.9 GW higher than
what was expected. To cope with
the total 4.4-GW gap between
demand and supply that resulted
from the forecast error, at 9 a.m. on
the day of the event, when the system operation revised the schedule, 0.81 GW of the scheduled PV
curtailment and 2.26 GW of the
scheduled PSH operation were
canceled. Instead, 1.5 GW of PSH
generation was scheduled. Moreover, 1 GW of thermal generation
was requested by the operator.
