IEEE Power & Energy Magazine - Grid Edge 2023 - 16

Riding the Grid Edge (Panel Session)
Session Chair 1: Veronika RABL, Quanta Technology
This panel is organized by IEEE's electric transportation
hub-Transportation Electrification Community. The objective
of this panel is to separate the hype and fear of EV charging
impacts and issues from facts. The panelists will also
discuss expected progress and urgent needs in making EVs
one of the flexible loads in a V2G environment. The panel
as a whole expects to shed more light on opportunities and
obstacles to integrating electric transportation into the grid.

Microgrid Implementation: Key Technologies, Challenges,
and Lessons Learned (Panel Session)
Session Chair: Amin Zamani, Quanta Technology
Environmental benefits, improved system resiliency,
energy cost saving, and enhanced efficiency are proven to
be the key drivers for microgrid deployment. While, on a
broader level, microgrids can be developed using a common
approach, their implementation challenges vary based on
the application, type, project requirements, economics, and
business drivers. This panel focuses on various implementation
aspects for different types of microgrids, including
utility microgrids and customer microgrids. More importantly,
the presenters provide practical information and lessons
learned for addressing the development challenges of
their microgrid projects, including feasibility, engineering
design, system integration, testing, commissioning, operation,
and maintenance.

Future Energy System (Panel Session)
Session Chair 1: Xiaofeng Zhang, Global Green Development
Alliance
Future power grids face various challenges due to a rapidly
growing renewable energy resources. The Distributed
Energy Resources (DERs), such as wind, solar, small hydro,
combined heat and power plants, energy storage, electric
vehicles, and smart loads become more prevalent. This panel
will invite industrial experts and leaders to share their experience
on optimal management and control of the DERs in
