INCREASE IN THE NUMBER AND FREQUENCY OF
widespread outages in recent years has been directly linked
to drastic climate change necessitating better preparedness
for outage mitigation. Severe weather conditions are experienced
more frequently and on larger scales, challenging
system operation and recovery time after an outage. The
impact is more evident and concerning than before, considering
the increased dependency on electricity in all aspects
of our lives.
While enhancing reliability and resilience of the power
system has been underway, one challenging aspect is to ensure
the transformation is well aligned with use of cleaner
and sustainable energy resources. The enhancement also
requires a paradigm shift from the traditional ways of
managing system outages to advanced methods, such as
self-healing technologies (to automatically reconfigure the
