En esta perturbación, el área de Washington, D. C., experimentó
una caída prolongada grave a causa de una falla prolongada
de 58 segundos en el sistema de 230 kV en el este
de Maryland. El evento se inició por la falla de un supresor
de rayos de 230 kV y la imposibilidad del sistema de protección
para aislar dicha falla. Se perdieron aproximadamente
