sectors, such as transportation and building heating, will
continue this trend. To address these changes and better
direct utility investments in reliability, it is important to look
beyond average systemwide reliability metrics towards more
customer-centric ones.
CEMSMI, CEMI, CEMM, and CELID have shown to
be useful and can help guide improvements in reliability for
underserved customers and should be used more widely. In
future energy systems with much higher levels of variable
renewables and electrifi cation of the transportation system,
distribution-level stability metrics will likely also be a new
area of focus.
As progress toward more customer-centric reporting
takes place around the world, we encourage utilities and regulators
to learn from past examples and incorporate betterrounded
reliability tracking that fulfi lls all customer needs
and supports an all-around reliable, resilient, and stable grid.
