The	 elk	 samples	 also	 were	tested	for	brucellosis	and	bovine	 tuberculosis,	at	Penn	State	University,	 and	found	to	be	free	of	those	diseases. “Although	 CWD	 has	 not	 been	 found	in	Pennsylvania,”	Cottrell	said,	 “we	must	continue	to	be	vigilant.	Our	 surveillance	work	is	important	for	the	 early	detection	of	CWD.	Considering	 that	CWD	has	been	found	roughly	10	 miles	 from	 our	 border	 in	 Maryland,	 which	is	likely	to	be	part	of	the	spread	 of	 the	 disease	 from	 West	 Virginia,	 there	is	no	reason	to	not	expect	it	to	 eventually	show	up	here. Advice to hunters headed out of state To	help	keep	Pennsylvania	CWD	 free,	hunters	heading	off	to	hunt	big	 game	 in	 Colorado,	 Illinois,	 Iowa,	 Kansas,	 Maryland	 (only	 from	 CWD	 Management	Area),	Michigan,	Minnesota,	Missouri,	Montana,	Nebraska,	 New	 Mexico,	 New	 York	 (only	 from	 Madison	 and	 Oneida	 counties),	 North	 Dakota,	 Oklahoma,	 South	 Dakota,	 Texas,	 Utah,	 Virginia	 (only	 from	CWD	Containment	Area),	West	 Virginia	 (only	 from	 CWD	 Containment	Area),	Wisconsin	and	Wyoming;	 as	well	as	Alberta	and	Saskatchewan	 may	not	bring	back	to	Pennsylvania:	 the	 head	 (including	 brain,	 tonsils,	 eyes	 and	 any	 lymph	 nodes);	 spinal	 cord/backbone;	 spleen;	 skull	 plate	 with	attached	antlers,	if	visible	brain	 or	spinal	cord	tissue	is	present;	cape,	 if	visible	brain	or	spinal	cord	tissue	is	 present;	 upper	 canine	 teeth,	 if	 root	 structure	or	other	soft	tissue	is	present;	 any	object	or	article	containing	visible
