Hunter-Trapper Education hits high mark
More than 41,000 students statewide received their license certification in 2014.
The Game Commission's HunterTrapper Education program reached a
new milestone in 2014.
A record 41,462 students completed
the course to receive their certification
in 2014.
That's an increase of 492 students
compared to the previous year, which
also set a new record.
Launched in 1959 as a voluntary
program, and made mandatory in 1982,
completion of the Hunter-Trapper
Education course is required for all firsttime license buyers in Pennsylvania.
There is no fee associated with taking the course, but students typically
are required to register in advance.
The Hunter-Trapper Education program would not be possible without the
dedicated service of more than 2,200
volunteer instructors who in 2014 combined to lead 1,093 courses statewide.
The basic Hunter-Trapper Education course is completed in about six
hours, and in recent years, efforts have
been made to hold more courses on
weekends and at convenient times,
when demand is highest.
