It's just plain tougher to tag a deer with a bow than it is with a gun. You're choosing to limit yourself by hunting with a sporting arm that has a fraction of the range of any firearm. Bowhunters who choose to hunt with traditional archery gear are challenged even further. Even in skilled hands, a recurve or longbow just can't do what 54 a compound - or a crossbow can do in terms of effective range and accuracy. "Choosing to shoot traditional archery equipment is not based on effectiveness or anything practical," said John Wert, an avid traditional archer and shooting coach, who manages the TradTech Archery division of Lancaster Archery Supply. "It's based on making hunting more interesting or more exciting. It's more challenging. It's more historical. It's a personal choice."
