immersed themselves since high school. It's a fine way to help your community, to fight slob hunting, to ensure wildlife management will have enough hunters to support conservation in the future. Since its inception, Pennsylvania's hunter-education program has graduated more than 2 million students. That's quite an accomplishment for a program that spans only about two generations. It speaks of the love Pennsylvanians have for hunting and their respect for wildlife and wild places. "Hunter education has been the gateway to hunting in Pennsylvania," Burhans noted. "That translates into more trainedand-certified hunters afield than any other time in NOVEMBER 2019 the state's history. It's why Pennsylvania's hunter-safety record is so admirable." Hunter education's take-home message has always been that every hunter, through his or her actions, can make a difference afield. And many must be, based upon our safety record and the willingness of most hunters to hunt lawfully and ethically. So, take a bow if you're a huntereducation instructor. Take a bow if you're a hunter-education graduate. Together, we have found a way to extend Pennsylvania's hunting heritage and to ensure wildlife has enough friends to support the conservation programs that keep it abundant and relevant. Let's hope the next 50 years are just as rewarding! 5
