Drawing back on a . . . "W HY WOULD YOU want to hunt with a longbow?" It's a question many friends asked me in recent years as I considered hanging up my compound bow for good. I'd always been interested in the traditional bowhunting methods of our ancestors. Not that taking any deer within Penn's Woods with archery tackle isn't a tremendous accomplishment. It is. But to do it with traditional equipment, well, to me, that was the ultimate challenge. And it was that challenge that had me considering this idea for some time. The fire ignites A lifelong archer, I have owned many bows over the years. Many were recurves and longbows. I've always enjoyed shooting traditional equipment, including wooden arrows with feather fletchings, but never thought I was accurate enough to hunt with these bows. But that would change. In the summer of 2018, while fishing in western Montana with a relative who is a bowyer, or bow-builder, we started talking about the bows he builds and the type of bow that would be good for me.
