Natural gas extraction has been a factor in shaping habitat on State Game Lands 25 for many years. There are three active Marcellus shale gas well pads and several miles of newly established pipeline on the game lands. Wildlife habitat has been improved as a result. A plethora of wildlife, including wild turkeys, take advantage of these new planted corridors and herbaceous openings on a landscape that once didn't have them. Public access to State Game Lands 25 is excellent. Several state roads bisect the property, and four roads maintained by the Game Commission, including Middle Fork Road, shown in the background, are open seasonally. The old Shawmut Railroad Grade is another popular road that allows hunter access for nearly five months of the year. 52 Mandy Marconi The scenic beauty of State Game Lands 25 can be enjoyed in every corner of the tract. The timber cut off Crooked Creek Ridge Road, the hemlock-choked banks of the Middle Fork East Branch Clarion River, and the Haney Hill overlook off Glen Hazel Road provide stunning backdrops.
