Hunters take 133 elk in 2020-21
Pennsylvania's 2020-21 elk seasons
ended with a bang, with 28 of 34 hunters
filling their tags in the late season.
The late-season haul brought the
2020-21 harvest to a total of 133 elk taken
across three seasons.
The antlerless-only late season also
saw the harvest of the heaviest cow taken
in 2020-21 - a 598-pounder shot Jan. 4
in Elk Hunt Zone 1 by Eric Michaels, of
Curwensville.
The late season took the total 2020-21
cow harvest to 97 cows for 128 hunters.
All 36 bull hunters in the archery and
general seasons filled their 2020-21 tags.
Twenty-one of 26 archery elk hunters took
elk. The heaviest bull was 777 pounds.
Hunting in Pennsylvania's elk season
is a highly sought-after opportunity, with
licenses awarded by lottery to randomly
selected applicants. Each year, there's a
July 31 deadline for elk-license application
and the purchase of bonus points. The elk
license drawing occurs in August.

LATE DELIVERY EXPLAINED
Game News staff sincerely apologizes

later-than-usual arrival of recent issues, a
result of widespread postal delays.
" While our Harrisburg-based staff has
worked primarily from home over the past
year, we continue to deliver the magazine
to our printer on time, and usually early,
month after month, " Game News Editor
Travis Lau said. " And our printer, K/B
Offset, of State College, has continued
to print the magazine on its regular
monthly schedule, which usually puts it in
subscribers' mailboxes in the third week
of the month.
" For most subscribers, however, the
last couple issues arrived two to four
weeks later than usual, " Lau said. " We
thank subscribers for their patience as mail
delivery catches up, and those who are
eager for an earlier look always can view
the magazine's electronic version online. "

All Game Commission livestreams can
be accessed through the agency's website,
www.pgc.pa.gov.
The livestreams are a collaborative
effort by the Game Commission,
HDOnTap and Comcast Business.
HDOnTap provides the streaming
services and Comcast Business provides
the internet connectivity.
Game Commission Information and
Education Director Steve Smith said the
agency's livestreams allow viewers to see
wildlife behavior unfold in front of them,
at closer proximity than usually is possible
in the wild.
" Viewers often tell us how appreciative
they are for the entertaining, educational
opportunities the livestreams provide,
but also for how the livestreams have
given them a whole new appreciation of
wildlife, " Smith said. " Those are among
many reasons the Game Commission's
wildlife livestreams remain so popular,
and why we're proud to bring them back
again this year. "
This is the seventh year for the 24-7
livestream at the Hanover nest, located
at Codorus State Park. HDOnTap CoFounder Tiffany Sears said the livestream
is one of the company's most popular.
" Since 2015, viewers have enjoyed over
40 million hours of 24-7, live HD video
and audio from the nest, as well as daily
time-lapse clips on screens worldwide. "
Bald eagles typically lay eggs in midFebruary and, if the eggs are viable, they'll
hatch in mid- to late March, with young
fledging in June, but continuing to stop
back at the nest.
Snow goose migration typically peaks
at Middle Creek from mid-February to
March.
During the 2019 run of the Game
Commission's bear-den livestream, the
bears left the den April 11.
